News – Nintendo And Universal Team Up For Nintendo Based Theme Park Attractions

If you’re a fan of retro, then there’s a good chance you’re also a fan of spending more than an hour or two within Nintendo’s varied creations. So how excited would you be if I told you that these worlds may soon be places you can literally visit. Well, thanks to Nintendo’s brand new deal with Universal Studios, this will very soon be a reality.

This announcement came in the form of a promotional video from both Nintendo and Universal. A video which featured none other than Shigeru Miyamoto, who spoke of the excitement of working with Universal to bring Nintendo’s characters and worlds to life through a range of theme park attractions. The full video can be seen in full below.

In addition to this video, Nintendo also made the following statement via their official website:

The creative visionaries behind Nintendo’s legendary worlds and characters are working together with the creative teams behind Universal’s blockbuster theme park attractions. Their goal: to bring the characters, action and adventure of Nintendo video games to life within Universal theme parks. And to do so in new and innovative ways that capture what makes them so special. All of the adventure, fun and whimsy you experience through a screen will now be all around you – in breathtakingly authentic ways.

Details are currently thin on the ground, however Nintendo did confirm the following:

  • Nintendo themed areas will arrive at Universal Studios Japan (where it will join other video game themes areas such as a Resident Evil themes areas), Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.
  • Currently these are in the planning and creative stages, however they will open separately over the course of the next several years.
  • Guests will be able to play inside their favourite games, with experiences geared to everyone regardless of age or gaming experience.
  • These will be “expansive, immersive and interactive. They will be highly themed and authentic environments filled with multiple attractions, shops and restaurants.”

Could these attractions end up resembling the Wii U launch title Nintendo Land?

All in all, from what Nintendo and Universal have revealed, it sounds like these Nintendo theme park attractions could well represent something of a real life version of the Wii U launch title Nintendo Land. A game filled with a variety of theme park inspired mini-games based around Nintendo’s entire catalogue of creations. Even if it doesn’t though, it’s really hard not to be immensely excited just by the prospect of a Nintendo theme park.

I mean, just imagine being able to dash past Luigi whilst racing along Rainbow Road, or exploring Hyrule with Link, or even rising on a star with Kirby. The possibilities really are endless here, and until Nintendo and Universal announce more, we’ll all just have to be left to our own imaginations when it comes to the experiences that we could soon be having. One things for sure, we here at Rings & Coins will definitely be sure to keep you updated as and when we know more regarding this very exciting development.
