News – Is Bubsy Making a Comeback?

Noooooooooooo!  Here at Rings & Coins we thought we’d seen the last of Bubsy.  However, it seems that this wisecracking Bobcat is trying to make a less than welcome comeback.  Last seen in the disastrous Bubsy 3D on PlayStation, Bubsy is a throwback character from the early 90s.  A time when everyone was trying to cash in on Sonic and Super Mario’s success.

However, Bubsy didn’t achieve such lofty heights, arguably being one of the most frustrating, annoying, and even arguably bland characters, to ever grace video gaming.  Oh, and the games were even worse.  Our review of Bubsy’s original outing was, let’s say, less than glowing, and can be read for yourself over here.

Nevertheless, current publisher Retroism is looking to re-release both of Bubsy’s 16-bit platformers via the Steam Greenlight platform, which asks users to vote on games to be considered by Valve for funding.  The plan currently, is to release both games in the form of a two-pack entitled Bubsy Two-Fur.  Providing Bubsy’s return gets the backing on Greenlight that Retroism are hoping for, the double pack is scheduled for a late 2015 release on Steam, priced at $4.99.

Furthermore, in order increase awareness of this project to save the cat with “attitude”, Retroism has also launched the Twitter campaign #SaveBubsy.   So, if you’re a die hard Bubsy fan, and would like to see the Bobcat gain another life, then voting is open right now on Steam just over here.  We’ll be sure to keep you updated on Bubsy’s potential revival, and if this goes ahead then lets hope they make some improvements while they’re at it.
