News – New Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn Trailer Revealed
Last night saw this year’s edition of Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards, and with it a celebration of the last 12 months in gaming. However, The Game Awards are arguably just as famous for putting the limelight on those games that are coming soon, through its multiple world premiere trailers. These trailers are reserved the best, brightest, and most interesting of the games currently in development, both those we do know and those we don’t.
However, in amongst these heavily publicised trailers lay one definite blast from the past. One that many including us here at Rings & Coins, may want to forget. Que, Shaquille O’Neill.

Yes, that’s right! Hidden within the world premieres for games such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Quantum Break, lay the latest trailer for Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn, the spiritual sequel to the original 16-bit fighting game Shaq Fu. Although referring to the latter as a game is generous indeed.
Nevertheless, new development team Big Deez Productions, which is made up of numerous industry veterans, is aware of the brand’s earlier mistakes, wants to put right the wrongs from the past. Even better, it seems like Big Deez, and even Shaq himself, realise how bad the original was and are embracing it. Essentially creating a game that both parodies the original, and delivers a great gaming experience.
Shaq Fu was so bad you have to understand everyone’s trepidation. However, Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn not only has Shaq on board, but it also has the fans too, demonstrated through their successful IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign. Not only this, but dare I say it, the game actually looks good, with the gameplay altered to something that seems to fit Streets of Rage more than Street Fighter.
So, believe it or not, we here at Rings & Coins are actually excited to see how this one turns out. It’s easy to see Shaq and the team’s passion for the title, one that has a dubious history in gaming, and that passion is infectious. Let’s hope Shaq and the team can truly expunge the memory of the original title, whilst also making a decent game. As anyone who wants to do that gets my vote!
