News – Pokémon Sun and Moon’s Starters Revealed

Today The Pokémon Company and Nintendo revealed the first details for Pokémon Sun & Moon, the latest evolution in one of retro gaming’s most successful series. Through this reveal not only did we get our first glimpses of the tropical Hawaii-inspired setting of Alola, but we were also introduced to five brand new Pokémon. These included not only the three starters that players will be able to choose from at the dawn of their adventure, but also both of the game’s traditional legendaries.

Pokémon Sun and Moon’s starters include the water-type Sea Lion Popplio, Litten the fittingly named fire-type Kitten, and the super cute grass-quill Owl Rowlett. All three look to be solid additions to Pokémon’s 700 plus strong list of species, however it’s Rowlett who’s possibly the most interesting. That’s because aside from being adorable, he’s also a dual-type Pokémon unlike the other two, being categorised as flying alongside the traditional starter type of Grass.

That’s not all though, as we were also given a glimpse at each game’s exclusive legendary mascot. However, with so little to go off, it’s hard to discern any extra information regarding Sun’s ferocious looking Lion, or Moon’s mysterious Bat-like Pokémon. Although it must be said that these two nameless Pokémon certainly do look impressive.

Finally, on top of the brand new trailer, Japanese Pokémaniacs were treated to an additional commercial that is definitely worth a watch. This commercial not only captures the magic and excitement of one of gaming’s post popular brands, but also emphasises how the franchise continues to easily cross both cultural boundaries, and even the generational divide with gaming. Also, just so you don’t have to sift your way through Pokémon’s Japanese Youtube account, I’ve added this commercial below.

Pokémon Sun & Moon will be released globally on November 18th 2016, and Rings & Coins will be on hand with all the Pokémon info you’ll need, both in the build up to the launch and after. What’s more, in that spirit we’ll also have a closer look at all three of Pokémon Sun and Moon’s starters starters later in the week, so watch out for that.
