News – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade Action Figures Incoming

Ask anyone who grew up in the golden age of the arcade to list some of their favourite games, and you’re bound to hear Konami’s legendary brawler Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles named a fair few times. It’s an iconic game that combined some of the best co-operative brawling action the arcades could offer, with beautiful presentation that encapsulated the feel of the classic cartoon. All in all, it’s easy to see why it’s remembered so fondly.

So given all this, I’m sure nobody is going to argue with a range of action figures based on this icon of the arcade era. And that’s good, as this is exactly what NECA is offering after all these years. What’s more, this collection stretches way beyond the four heroes in a half-shell, and also includes a range of foot soldiers and even shredder, arguably one of the greatest villains ever created. Finally, this collection even goes as far as to encapsulate the in-game pixelated look of the characters for an unrivalled sense of authenticity.

In fact, this isn’t the first time that NECA have created a range of action figures based on retro classics. Prior to adapting Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into a range of a action figures, NECA previously adapted another of Konami’s retro classics in the form of Contra. As such, it’s clear that NECA certainly has a pedigree in respecting the legacy of these retro classics.

Nevertheless, it’s not all good news. You see, unfortunately, according to NECA’s announcement these figures are to be an exclusive set that will only be sold at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. A decision which means these are bound to become a collector’s item extremely quickly. The only saving grace is that unlike back in 1989, hopefully those who really want to grab the set will be able to find one online in the near future. I’ll certainly keeping my eyes peeled.
